Three summers ago, TikTok’s Tomato Girl aesthetic offered a sun-drenched Mediterranean fantasy complete with white linen, vintage prints, produce-themed accessories and plenty of warm red. By June 2023, WWD reported that #tomatogirl had accumulated 2 million mentions on TikTok.
Approximately 400 microtrends later, tomato red has returned. The bright, orange-leaning color has recently appeared in celebrity street style and among the Copenhagen Fashion Week crowd, suggesting it has no plans to clock out with summer.
So whether you are clinging to the final days of summer before the start of the school year or ready to wear something besides muted tones this fall, these tomato red beauty and home finds deliver a welcome pop of color that still feels grown-up and cool. Three are also marked down during the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, which ends today, August 9.
Back in May, I had a tomato cocktail at a fancy mixology bar with my partner for his birthday. When he ordered it, I was apprehensive, but it was so bright, crisp and refreshing that I became instantly obsessed. Voluspa’s new Tomato Trellis candle has the same unexpected brightness and appeal. Bergamot, lemon, garden mint, rosemary and Roma tomato leaf give it a fresh, herbaceous scent, while odor-neutralizing technology makes it especially well-suited to the kitchen. While it is not discounted, anyone adding it to a Nordstrom cart today should take one final swing through the Anniversary Sale.
Staub turned its durable ceramic stoneware into a shiny, lidded heirloom tomato. The petite dish is dishwasher, freezer and microwave safe, plus oven safe up to 572 degrees, so it can do considerably more than sit around looking adorable. It typically runs for $50, but you can snag it for $45 during Nordstrom’s Anniversary Sale.
Beauty storage has rarely committed harder to produce. This three-inch tomato is made from pebbled faux leather, lined in velvet and finished with a zip-around closure and key ring. At $12.99 during the sale, it is also the best Nordstrom deal in the bunch.
This cheerful set pairs a hand-screen-printed cotton dish towel with a reusable Swedish sponge cloth. The biodegradable, compostable cloth can replace kitchen sponges and paper towels, making the tomato motif useful beyond looking cute beside the sink. It’s $5 off until the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale ends.
Tomato-red nails are the easiest way into the trend, and Essie did everyone the courtesy of naming the shade Tomato Tomahto. The glossy, saturated red works now with summer whites and later against denim, brown suede and fall knits.
K-beauty brand Lilybyred offers the roundup’s most literal beauty interpretation. Confident Cherry Tomato deposits juicy red color under a syrupy, glass-like shine, while the buildable formula can create either a softer gradient lip or full coverage. At just under $10, it is also the least expensive find here.
Ulta technically describes Pit Stop as orange peach, making it the softer, complexion-friendly end of the tomato-red spectrum. The saturated liquid blush blends down to a dewy flush and contains jojoba oil, hyaluronic acid, squalane and vitamins B5 and E. Start with one dot. The color payoff — like with pretty much every about-face product — is not playing around.
